EQUALITY

This project proposal builds upon the collaborative efforts of Deystvie and other organizations over the past three years, with the objective of deepening the implementation of the LGBTI Equality Strategy, aligning with the Charter of Fundamental Rights and decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union. Through comprehensive training and advocacy efforts, we seek to create an inclusive society that respects and upholds LGBTIQ rights.

Specific Objectives:

- Enhance the substantive legal knowledge on LGBTI fundamental rights and improve the legal and non-legal skills of public institutions, private sector entities, and civil organizations;

- Strengthen the enforcement of LGBTI rights under EU law and the EU Charter by actively engaging in coalition-building, participating in consultative processes with the state, and fostering joint efforts to bring about policy changes that specifically address hate crimes; - Combat societal stigma and promote inclusivity to improve the quality of life for LGBTIQ individuals and their families;

- Create an enabling environment for civil society organizations to actively engage in influencing laws and policies through forums, round tables, and other platforms.

Through strategic coalition-building and individual meetings with institutions, we will work towards aligning Bulgaria and Romania with EU standards on inclusion and the protection of LGBTIQ rights. By training 180 institutional personnel and 180 individuals from the private and civil sectors in the two countries we will increase their capacity to promote inclusivity.

Our public campaigns, cultural events (Sofia Pride film fest, for Bulgaria) and the Sofia Human Rights forum (for Bulgaria) aim at raising awareness of the general population in the two countries and will bring the topic to the forefront and create dialogue in a safe environment.
